THE PARK BEHIND MY BACKYARD
2021
This project explores coexistence and interconnectedness among the living organisms of Venserpark, revealing a hidden ecosystem shaped by time, rhythm, and natural cycles. Through experimental photography and site-specific nature sounds recorded by Joshua Krosenbrink, the work invites viewers to slow down and experience the park’s layered identity through visual and auditory engagement.

This project explores the co-existence and interconnectedness of the living organisms in Venserpark, Duivendrecht. While hundreds of people pass through the park every day, only a few take the time to truly connect with its flora and fauna. The park functions as a harmonious ecosystem in which animals, plants, and trees follow the natural cycle of life, revealing themes of time, rhythm, repetition, and resilience.

Combining digital photography with experimental photographic techniques and alternative processes, the project allows for slowing down, observation, and a deeper connection with the urban park environment. The project is further enriched by nature sounds recorded in Venserpark by Dutch sound engineer Joshua Krosenbrink, captured at the exact locations where the photographic images were taken in the fall of 2021.

By actively engaging the viewer’s visual, auditory, and tactile senses, the work invites a layered exploration of Venserpark’s hidden daily life and evolving identity.
